2. Why does it matter?

Jesus is your…
1A. Obedience- Rom 5:18-19 “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.” Jesus was born at Christmas to live for you.

2A. Substitute- Heb 2:14 “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” Jesus was born at Christmas to die for you.
C.S. Lewis “the Son of God became man to enable men to become sons of God.”
Augustine of Hippo: “Man’s maker was made man that He, Ruler of the stars, might nurse at His mother’s breast; that the Bread might hunger, the Fountain thirst, the Light sleep, the Way be tired on its journey; that Truth might be accused of false witnesses, the Teacher be beaten with whips, the Foundation be suspended on wood; that Strength might grow weak; that the Healer might be wounded; that Life might die.”

3A. Mediator- 1 Tim 2:5 “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Heb 2:17 “Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of his people.” Jesus was born at Christmas to plead for you.

4A. Example- 1 John 2:6 “Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” Jesus was born at Christmas to identify with you.

John 20:21- “As the Father sent me, even so I am sending you.”
