BIG IDEA: The family that fears the Lord…

1. Is a learning family
Prov 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Prov 9:10 the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Knowledge vs. wisdom- Where do I begin?

Let the Spirit do His work in your life to produce in you through:

His word- Ps 138:2 “Confirm to your servant your promise, that you might be feared.”
Your Parents-Ps 34:11 ‘Come O children, listen to me; I will teach you the FOTL.
Prayer- Ps 86:11- Teach me your way O Lord,…unite my heart to fear your name”

2. Is an obedient family

a. The hard heart- Prov 28:14 “Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.”

Prov 16:25 “There is a way that seems right, but in the end it leads to death.”
“be not wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord, and turn away from evil” (Prov 3:7).

b. But how do I turn from evil?
Prov 16:6 “by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.”
Prov 8:13 “The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.

c. Live uprightly-
Prov 14:2 “Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord.”

3. Is a blessed family

a. Abundant life-

Prov 10:27 "The fear of the Lord prolongs life"
Prov 9:11 "For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life"
Prov 14:27 "The Fear of the Lord is a fountain of life"
Prov 22:4 "The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life."

b. Security-

Prov 19:23 "The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm."
Prov 14:26- "In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge"

c. Contentment-

Prov 15:16 "Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it."
Prov 23:17 "Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day.”

d. Praise-

Prov 31:30 "Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
